Making a “Resolution” 🎉 that Sticks

Each New Year brings us New Hope, New Outlook and of course those pesky “New Year’s Resolutions.” It’s no secret that Most individuals will ultimately fail on those lofty resolutions we set for ourselves. But - let’s take a closer look at how we can actually set a “Resolution” that will stick with us.

I don’t really like the idea of a New Year - New You. Because, honestly… what’s wrong with the old you?? Instead of this New You - New Year Resolution - how about instead we use the term “New Goals”

  1. Choose a “Goal” that is Achievable. Most of the time, we’re setting these unrealistic expectations of ourselves and then we just give up when it gets hard. Remember, there are stepping stones to everything … you have to crawl before you can walk and walk before you run. Where are you at in your journey “right now” - where do you realistically think you can be in 3 months, 6 months, 1 year.

  2. Make it a Priority. This is my #1 - and probably the reason why most people do not meet their “resolutions”. We want to be healthy, lose weight, get fit. But when it comes down to it - does sleep win out over getting up to go workout? Does a late night out ruin your chances of making it to yoga in the morning? Is purchasing that cute pair of leggings and your daily coffee more important than spending money on a fitness membership? Mind you - it’s OK to sleep in now and then, its OK to have a night out - and it’s OK to splurge on a pair of lulu or starbucks ☕- but is one tipping the scales ⚖ in the wrong direction? Where are your PRIORITIES

  3. Make Yourself Accountable. Get yourself a group, whether it’s an accountability group that’s in person, a workout partner or a social media group/page. Record your progress and share it - it doesn’t have to be for the world to see, it can be a private group or between two people - but having someone else to encourage you, cheer you on and make you “show up” will make all the difference in the world to you hitting those “NEW GOALS”

  4. Remember, slow and steady wins the race 🐢 …. you’re making a “lifestyle change” and that’s not a trend or a fad - it’s your daily. You will come across some roadblocks, give yourself some grace and keep moving forward ➡

  5. ~ Happy New Year 🍾
